BIOGRAFIA:
Javier Denis es un saxofonista que siempre ha indagado en géneros y culturas de todo tipo, fácilmente amoldables a las texturas de su particular visión del jazz más europeo y vanguardista. De esta manera transmite el aroma profundo de la Andalucía árabe, lo que le hace acercarse a un público más amplio y profano. Es pues el suyo un jazz sureño que se sirve a veces de los signos de identidad más elementales de la cultura popular andaluza.
Comienza sus estudios en el Conservatorio Superior de Música de Málaga y más tarde en el de Madrid. Su actividad profesional empieza a mediados de los 70' con los grupos "Malaka" y "Tabletom". A comienzos de los 80' inicia su carrera jazzística con el grupo Madera y más tarde continua sus colaboraciones también con otras agrupaciones madrileñas como "Jose Antonio Galicia", "Mikropunto" y "Neobop". Al mismo tiempo funda en Málaga el grupo "Oleo" con el que participa en numerosos festivales y programas de TV, compartiendo cartel con Ornette Coleman, J.J.Johnson, George Adams, Don Pullen, Paquito de Rivera, etc.
Su inquietud le lleva en el año 1992 a crear en Málaga el club de Jazz "Blue Sax", por allí desfilaron gran cantidad de artistas y grupos nacionales y extranjeros. En 1993 comienza también su labor como coordinador del "Ciclo de Jazz de la Universidad de Málaga" con un total de veintisiete ediciones hasta el momento. En el 2009 fue colaborador de la agrupación "Total Vibration", proyecto creado por Markus Breuss en homenaje al mítico trompetista Don Cherry.
Fundador de varias agrupaciones de Jazz como el mencionado "Oleo", "Etna & la Unión Cubana", "Javier Denis-Jazz Connection", "Groovin’ Trio" y su más conocida formación "Javier Denis & Andalusí Jazz Band", es en esta última donde realmente encuentra lo que buscaba, un jazz arraigado y sugerente, incluso a veces salpicado de ese rock progresivo de donde él procede, composiciones propias que manifiestan y reflejan su latir como jazzman español y andaluz, algo que siempre ha querido transmitir. Con ella ha grabado tres discos. De esta agrupación han surgido dos ramificaciones "Andalusí Trío" con la que ha grabado su último disco 'Largo camino' y "Andalusí Project", en este último hace una retrospectiva de su trayectoria discográfica como líder, desde 1993 hasta el día de hoy, ofreciendo un repertorio que abarca temas de cada uno de sus discos. Su proyecto mas reciente es "Javier Denis Tribute Quartet", en el cual rinde homenaje a grandes músicos de la historia del Jazz, como Charlie Haden, Randy Weston, Kenny Wheeler, Tom Harrell y Don Pullen entre otros, cuyas composiciones no forman parte de los repertorios de Jazz habitualmente, a pesar de tener una gran calidad.
El 29 de octubre de 2023 participó en la conmemoración del veinte aniversario del Museo Picasso dentro del marco "Veinte veces Pablo" interpretando la "Suite de la Merced" que Javier Denis compuso con motivo de la inauguración del museo en 2003.
A lo largo de su carrera ha realizado numerosas giras por toda España y participado en diversos festivales nacionales e internacionales. También ha ofrecido conciertos en Tomar (Portugal), Libreville (Gabón), Utrecht (Holanda) y Rabat (Marruecos).

Javier Denis is a saxophonist who has always investigated in genres and cultures of all kinds, easily adaptable to the textures of his particular vision of the most European and avant-garde jazz. In this way it transmits the deep aroma of the Arab Andalusia, which makes it approach a wider and profane public. It is therefore a southern jazz that is sometimes used as the most elemental identity signs of Andalusian popular culture.
He began his studies at the Conservatory of Music in Malaga and later in Madrid. His professional activity began in the mid 70's with the groups "Malaka" and "Tabletom". At the beginning of the 80 'he began his jazz
career with the "Madera" group and later continued his collaborations with other Madrid groups such as "Jose Antonio Galicia", "Mikropunto" and "Neobop". At the same time, he founded the group "Oleo" in Málaga, with which he participated in numerous festivals and TV programs, sharing a poster with Ornette Coleman, J.J. Johnson, George Adams, Don Pullen, Paquito de Rivera, etc.
His concern in 1992 led him to create the "Blue Sax" jazz club in Málaga, where a great number of artists and national and foreign groups came and went. In 1993 he also began his work as coordinator of the "Ciclo de Jazz de la Universidad de Málaga" with a total of twenty-seven editions until now. In 2009 he collaborated with the group "Total Vibration", a project created by Markus Breuss in tribute to the mythical trumpeter Don Cherry.
Founder of several jazz groups such as "Oleo", "Etna & the Cuban Union", "Javier Denis-Jazz Connection", "Groovin 'Trio" and his best known "Javier Denis & Andalusí Jazz Band" The latter where he really finds what he was looking for, a rooted and suggestive jazz, sometimes even peppered with that progressive rock from where he comes from, his own compositions that manifest and reflect his beating as Spanish and Andalusian jazzman, something he has always wanted to convey. With it has recorded three discs. From this grouping have arisen two ramifications "Andalusí Trio" with which he recorded his latest album 'Largo camino' and "Andalusí Project", in the latter, makes a retrospective of his recording career as a leader, from 1993 to the present day, offering a repertoire that covers songs from each of his albums. His most recent project is "Javier Denis Tribute Quartet", in which he pays tribute to great musicians in the history of Jazz, such as Charlie Haden, Randy Weston, Kenny Wheeler, Tom Harrell and Don Pullen among others, whose compositions are usually not part of of the Jazz repertoires, despite having a great quality.
On October 29, 2023, he participated in the commemoration of the twentieth anniversary of the Picasso Museum within the framework of "Veinte veces Pablo" performing the "Suite de la Merced" that Javier Denis composed on the occasion of the museum's inauguration in 2003.
Throughout its race it has realized numerous tours by all Spain and participated in diverse national and international festivals. He has also given concerts in Tomar (Portugal), Libreville (Gabon), Utrecht (Holland) and Rabat (Morocco).
